Fisherman Native Soup, The Ultimate SeaFood
Native soup is one of the best soups in Nigeria literally. Widely popular in Rivers state, although its origin is unknown, locals often refer to it as Fisherman soup (and we’d settle with that.). If you are a seafood lover looking to eat something exciting to your taste buds, this is the ultimate dish.
2 pieces of Stockfish ear
½ cup of sliced Uziza (optional)
1 cup of snails
½ cup of ofor (thickening agent)
3 cubes of seasoning (Maggi)
½ cup of clams (ngolo)
¼ cup of ground crayfish
1 handful of fresh prawns
1 cup of sliced ponmo
Parboil the meat, add seasoning, sliced onions, salt. Allow to boil until it starts to soften.
Add stockfish, leave for 20 minutes.
Once both are soft and water is getting dried, add 4 cups of water, palm oil. Leave for 5 minutes.
Add crayfish, leave for 10 minutes.
Add the clams, crabs and ofor. Stir and leave to cook for 10 minutes
Snails are your next stop. Leave for 15 minutes.
Now is the time to put in your periwinkle, shrimps, prawns and uziza. Leave for 5 minutes.
Serve with any swallow of your choice.
